About this tool

What your engagement rate measures

Pinterest engagement rate is your total engagements divided by your impressions, times 100. Pinterest counts saves, Pin clicks and outbound clicks as engagements. If your Pins were seen 4,800 times and got 218 engagements, your engagement rate is 4.5%. This calculator does that math, plus your outbound click, save and Pin click rates.

The definitions come from the glossary in Pinterest's own Analytics help page. Every rate here shares the same bottom line: impressions, which Pinterest defines as the number of times your Pins or ads were on screen. That makes the rates easy to compare with each other and with your Analytics overview.

Nothing you type leaves your browser, so you can check one Pin, one board or a whole month without signing up. The two example buttons load the published numbers from PinBoostr's own case study account. They are one account's results, not an average for anyone else.

How it works

Four steps, about a minute

  1. 1

    Open Pinterest Analytics

Pick a date range, and filter to one Pin, board or content type if you like. The overview opens on the last 30 days.

  2. 2

    Copy five numbers

Impressions, engagements, Pin clicks, outbound clicks and saves. Leave blank any you do not have.

  3. 3

    Read the rates

Each card shows the rate, the formula and the math with your numbers, so you can check it by hand.

  4. 4

    Compare like with like

Run last month and this month, or two Pins of the same type, and see which rate moved.

By hand

How to calculate Pinterest engagement rate by hand

Take the Engagements number from Pinterest Analytics, divide it by Impressions for the same date range, and multiply by 100. With the first case study month of PinBoostr's own test account: 218 engagements ÷ 4,800 impressions × 100 = 4.5%. The other rates work the same way, with outbound clicks, saves or Pin clicks on top of the line instead.

Use one date range for every number. Pinterest's overview opens on the last 30 days, real-time estimates for the most recent 48 hours can still change, and outbound clicks are only counted from the date a link was added to a Pin (source: Pinterest Analytics, Pinterest Business Help Center, checked October 2026). A rate worked out from today's fresh numbers can shift a little tomorrow.

If you leave Engagements blank, the calculator adds saves, Pin clicks and outbound clicks together. Pinterest's own Engagements total can be a little higher, because it also counts actions such as carousel card swipes, so copy the number from Analytics when you have it.

What each rate means

Which rate to watch

Engagement rate tells you whether people do anything at all when they see your Pin. It is a good first check on images and titles, but it mixes three very different actions, so read the three rates under it before you change anything.

Outbound click rate is the one that pays for most bloggers, affiliates and shop owners, because it counts people leaving Pinterest for your site. In our public case study, the account's outbound click rate went from 1.3% in a manual month to about 2.6% the next month with Growth Brain, while impressions grew from 4.8K to 20.07K. Those are one account's numbers, not a target for yours. To see what a change in click rate is worth in visits and money, plug it into the Pinterest earnings calculator.

Save rate shows whether people want to come back to the idea later. A high save rate with few outbound clicks often means the image works but the title or the page gives no reason to visit now. Pin click rate shows curiosity: people opened the close-up to look closer. Lots of Pin clicks and few outbound clicks suggests the close-up does not make the next step clear.

Honest limits

What this calculator cannot tell you

There is no official "good" Pinterest engagement rate. Pinterest does not publish averages, and figures quoted online use different formulas, some dividing by followers instead of impressions. The fairest comparison is your own account against itself: the same kind of Pin over the same length of time, month after month.

Rates built on small numbers jump around. Ten saves on 200 impressions is a 5% save rate, and one more save moves it by half a point. Wait until a Pin or a month has a few thousand impressions before reading much into a change. And if Pinterest Analytics shows your site visits as low, tag your Pin links with the Pinterest UTM builder so Google Analytics credits them.

The rates climb when the Pins get better: fresh Pins for your best pages, titles that match what people search, and steady pinning. The PinBoostr Pinterest scheduler designs Pins from your own posts and queues them on a steady schedule, and you approve each Pin before it publishes. The formulas

  • Engagement rateEngagements ÷ impressions × 100. Pinterest counts saves, Pin clicks and outbound clicks as engagements.
  • Outbound click rateOutbound clicks ÷ impressions × 100. Clicks to the destination link on your Pin, which take people off Pinterest.
  • Save rateSaves ÷ impressions × 100. How often people saved your Pin to one of their boards.
  • Pin click ratePin clicks ÷ impressions × 100. A Pin click is a tap that opens your Pin in close-up.
  • Outbound share of engagementOutbound clicks ÷ engagements × 100. How much of your engagement turns into visits. Not a Pinterest metric, but a useful one.
  • Per 1,000 impressionsAny count ÷ impressions × 1,000. The same rate as a whole number, easier to read on small accounts.

Questions

Asked often

How do you calculate Pinterest engagement rate?

Divide your engagements by your impressions for the same date range, then multiply by 100. Pinterest counts saves, Pin clicks and outbound clicks as engagements. For example, 218 engagements on 4,800 impressions is a 4.5% engagement rate.

What is a good Pinterest engagement rate?

Pinterest does not publish an average, and figures you find online use different formulas, so there is no reliable benchmark. Compare your own months and your own Pin types instead. A rate that holds or rises while impressions grow is a good sign.

How do I calculate my Pinterest outbound click rate?

Divide outbound clicks by impressions and multiply by 100. For example, 62 outbound clicks on 4,800 impressions is about 1.3%. Pinterest only counts outbound clicks from the date a link was added to the Pin.

Should engagement rate use followers or impressions?

Pinterest's own Analytics divides by impressions, the number of times your Pins were on screen. Many Pin views come from people who do not follow you, so a rate per follower says little about how a Pin performs. This calculator uses impressions.

Why does my result differ from Pinterest Analytics?

Usually the date ranges differ, or engagements were added up by hand. Pinterest's Engagements total also counts actions such as carousel swipes, and real-time estimates for the last 48 hours can still change.

Is my data stored?

No. The math runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to PinBoostr or anyone else. There is no sign-up.
