The LinkedIn banner, which LinkedIn calls the background or cover image, has one recommended size. Make your personal LinkedIn banner 1584 x 396 pixels, saved as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. A company Page cover is a different size: LinkedIn Help currently lists 1512 x 256 pixels, PNG or JPEG, up to 3 MB.

Personal LinkedIn banner size: 1584 x 396

LinkedIn’s help page on adding a cover image to your profile recommends 1584 x 396 pixels, which is a 4:1 shape. The file must be a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. LinkedIn also suggests a larger, higher-quality file for sharper results.

To change it on desktop, click Me, then View Profile, then the camera icon in the upper-right corner of your introduction section. You can upload one photo, pick one of LinkedIn’s images, or create a slideshow (slideshows need Premium). You can crop, reposition, add a filter or rotate before you click Apply.

Two surprises. When you go live with LinkedIn Live, your cover image temporarily switches to show the stream and comes back when it ends; you cannot turn that off. And GIFs are not supported for profile or background photos.

LinkedIn banner size for mobile

There is no separate mobile banner size. You upload one 1584 x 396 image and LinkedIn shows it everywhere. LinkedIn does say that how the image appears can vary with your browser window size and screen resolution. So the same file is shown at very different widths, and edges can be hidden. The fix is careful placement, not a second file.

The safe zone: what the profile photo covers

Your banner sits behind your profile photo in the introduction section of your profile. On desktop, the round profile photo overlaps the lower-left part of the banner. On a phone, the banner is displayed much smaller, so that same photo takes up more of it, and narrow screens can trim the sides.

LinkedIn does not publish exact safe-zone pixel measurements for profile banners, so treat these as working rules of thumb rather than official numbers:

  • Keep the lower-left corner empty. Assume roughly the left third of the bottom half will be under your photo on some screen.
  • Put text and key visuals in the center or center-right, vertically centered, with a clear margin from every edge.
  • Keep text short, large and high contrast. At phone size a long sentence becomes unreadable.
  • Do not put contact details or a call to action right at an edge. That is where cropping happens.
  • Check it on both. After uploading, look at your profile on a desktop browser (try a narrower window too) and in the mobile app before you call it done.

For company Pages, LinkedIn is specific: the cover may be trimmed horizontally or vertically to fit different screens, so keep important details near the center and away from the edges, especially the lower-right corner.

LinkedIn company Page cover and logo size

LinkedIn’s image specifications for Pages and Career Pages currently list the Page cover at 1512 x 256 pixels as both the minimum and the recommended size, and the logo at 268 x 268 minimum, 400 x 400 recommended. All Page images must be PNG or JPEG, with a maximum of 3 MB. Older guides still quote 4200 x 700 or 1128 x 191; LinkedIn updated this help page recently, so go by the current page.

A few notes from the same page:

  • Logos appear on both light and dark backgrounds, and transparent logos are shown on white. Test your logo on both before you upload a transparent PNG.
  • For the sharpest result, use the recommended dimensions and a high-resolution JPEG. If a dynamic cover looks blurry, use a larger file.
  • The dynamic cover slideshow needs a Premium Company Page subscription, and the Life tab modules need Career Pages.

Newsletter and article cover size

For articles, LinkedIn’s help page on adding images and rich media to your article gives the optimal cover size as 1920 x 1080 pixels, cropped to 16:9. Cover images can be JPEG, JPG, PNG or WEBP; GIFs are no longer allowed as covers. Images inside the article can be GIFs, as long as they have fewer than 400 frames.

Newsletters follow the same 1920 x 1080 recommendation for each issue’s cover, and LinkedIn recommends a 300 x 300 logo for the newsletter itself.

LinkedIn post image and video sizes

For image posts, LinkedIn Help on sharing photos says a photo must be at least 552 x 276 pixels, recommends 1080 pixels wide, and accepts aspect ratios from 3:1 (wide) to 4:5 (portrait). Each upload can be up to 5 MB, and a multi-photo post can hold up to 20 photos. Since 4:5 is the tallest shape LinkedIn allows, 1080 x 1350 is the largest portrait option at the recommended width, and 1080 x 1080 is the simple square. Supported image types are GIF, JPEG, PNG and WEBP (HEIF/HEIC on iOS only), with a 36-megapixel maximum resolution.

For video, LinkedIn lists a file size of 75 KB to 5 GB, a length of 3 seconds to 15 minutes when you upload from desktop (LinkedIn’s help pages give slightly different limits for uploads from the mobile app), a resolution between 256 x 144 and 4096 x 2304, an aspect ratio between 1:2.4 and 2.4:1, and 10 to 60 frames per second. MP4 and MOV work on desktop, iOS and Android.

Document posts are their own format. If you are making a swipeable PDF carousel, the carousel size guide covers page sizes and file limits in detail.

Design tips for a LinkedIn banner that works

  • Export at the exact size. Design at 1584 x 396 for a profile or 1512 x 256 for a Page, so LinkedIn does not have to stretch or crop it.
  • PNG for text and graphics, JPG for photos. PNG keeps letters crisp; JPG keeps photo files small. Stay under 8 MB (profile) or 3 MB (Page).
  • Say one thing. What you do, or who you help. Your headline already carries detail; the banner should support it, not repeat it. If your headline needs work, try our free LinkedIn headline generator.
  • Use contrast against your photo. If your profile photo has a dark background, a light banner behind it keeps the circle visible.

Where PinBoostr fits

PinBoostr does not design profile banners or Page covers, and it does not post to company Pages. Where it helps is the content side: its Carousel studio lets you design PDF document carousels from templates at the right size, attach them to a post, and schedule it to your personal LinkedIn profile through LinkedIn’s official API. Nothing is posted until you approve it. The LinkedIn scheduling tool is in open beta and free to try.

FAQ

What size is a LinkedIn banner in pixels?

LinkedIn recommends 1584 x 396 pixels for a personal profile banner. Use a JPG or PNG under 8 MB.

What is the LinkedIn banner size for a company page?

LinkedIn Help currently lists 1512 x 256 pixels for a Page cover, as both the minimum and the recommended size. The file must be PNG or JPEG, up to 3 MB.

Is there a different LinkedIn banner size for mobile?

No. You upload one image and LinkedIn displays it on every screen. Keep important content near the center, because smaller screens can trim the edges and the profile photo covers more of it.

What size should my LinkedIn profile picture be?

LinkedIn accepts profile photos between 400 x 400 and 7680 x 4320 pixels, as a JPG or PNG up to 8 MB. A square image works best because it is shown as a circle.

What is the LinkedIn newsletter cover image size?

LinkedIn recommends 1920 x 1080 pixels (16:9) for newsletter and article covers, and 300 x 300 pixels for the newsletter logo.

Can I use a GIF as my LinkedIn banner?

No. LinkedIn does not support GIFs for profile or background photos, and GIFs are no longer allowed as article cover images either.
