LinkedIn Character Limits

A LinkedIn post can be 3,000 characters, but only about 210 show before "see more". Every LinkedIn character limit in one table.

  5. Write and schedule within the limits

A LinkedIn post can be up to 3,000 characters long. The number that matters more is much smaller: LinkedIn shows only about the first 210 characters on desktop, and about 140 on a phone, before it cuts the post off with "see more". Those opening lines decide whether anyone reads the rest.

About section2,600 characters

The 3,000-character post limit is the one LinkedIn states itself. LinkedIn does not publish the others; they are the limits its forms enforce, as widely reported in October 2026. The "see more" cut-off is approximate: it depends on the screen, on line breaks and on the tests LinkedIn runs, so treat 140 characters as the safe length for your opening.

The opening is the post

In the feed, your post is a name, a headline and two or three lines of text. Everything else is hidden. So the first line has one job: make the reader want the second.

  • Lead with the point, not the warm-up. "I almost quit my job last year" beats "I want to share something personal today".
  • Break the line early. A short first line with a line break after it fits on any screen.
  • Be specific. A number, a name or a concrete result reads as worth the click.
  • Do not spend it on hashtags or links. Put those at the end, if you use them at all.

Stuck on the opening? The free LinkedIn hook generator writes ten first lines for any topic, each short enough to show before the cut-off.

How long should a LinkedIn post be?

There is no ideal length that holds for every post. A sharp observation can land in four lines. A lesson with a story usually needs more room. Write what the idea needs, then cut what it does not. The 3,000-character ceiling is roughly 450 to 500 words, and few posts need all of it.

Your headline: 220 characters, about 60 seen

Your headline appears next to every post and comment you write, but in most places LinkedIn shows only the first 60 or so characters. Put what you do and who you help at the very start. The free LinkedIn headline generator writes options that front-load the part people actually see.

Write and schedule within the limits

PinBoostr's LinkedIn composer shows a live preview of your post in the feed, on a phone or a desktop, including exactly where "see more" cuts it, so you can fix the opening before it goes out. Posts publish through LinkedIn's official API at the time you choose. See the LinkedIn scheduling tool.
